EarthShakers Clutch - Historical Events / FiguresHatching Spring 2004 Pern date 8.11.06.07 Aerial Beauty EggThere’s something not quite natural about this egg. Something that makes you think it could have been man-made, constructed of metals. Only those sparse patches of bluish-white shell dispel that theory. There is no metal that could appear as soft and misty as a white cloud, or blue like the brilliant sky. It’s hard to know what to think of this egg, or its occupant. You are drawn to the mystery of its intricacy. Puzzling out the pattern will occupy more than one Candidate’s thoughts causing them to appear day-dreamy. When a teacher or taskmaster breaks them from their reverie it will most likely be with the words, ‘Get your head out of the clouds’ and somehow that seems very appropriate. What precious dragon lurks beneath such an odd egg? Surely it will be a complex little one offering promises of mysteries and adventure - just like its egg. Green Meelith - MaishaCurled up tight over the last month, growing stronger, longer and larger, this amazing green dragon has been dreaming constantly of flights of fancy. From the time cognizant thoughts began to form in her maturing mind, this apple green hatchling was on a wild imaginary journey all her own. Based on Amelia Earhart Time to Grow Up EggWhile young and proud of its own accomplishment, there is also an uncertainty about it. Already though there is clearly an attempt to step out of overriding shadows for the other side is totally devoid of the haze. The only thing found there is a strong blue making this egg easily distinguishable from the sandy surroundings. The vibrant display of color could almost be taken as refusal for the egg's plight to go unnoticed. The poles of the blue side are capped with flares of another red that clash with the background. Perhaps, though unique, there is a sense of this egg struggling to escape, or at least to have its attempts noticed. It is only the stars, sprinkled scarcely along the blue toned side, that rest peacefully content in their own pure white brilliance. Their creamy centers spread outward to a jagged, clear yet white hazed, crystalline appearance on each of the points. The meaning of them is unclear but the presence is undeniable. Green Militath - LastarUnlike a certain clutchmate that Militath would refuse to name, this green is big. Her size hasn't changed the amount, or lack, of muscle that she possesses. If anything, Militath is likely to be mistaken as a giant algae colored twig with light ivy green shading over what concentrations of strength she has. The bland appearance doesn't do any justice to the vibrant attitude underneath. Militath is too independent to let anyone control her. It will be hard for anyone to get through to her except through kindness and compassion. Any who take the time to be like that will earn Militath's undying devotion no matter their color. Based on American Revolution: Americans Watchrider Wannabe EggThis egg pays attention in a way that suggests it knows what is best and its silence says it is not willing to share those secrets with anyone. Perhaps the judgmental egg finds everyone unworthy of its greatness for it appears thickly textured by a stuffy red haze to the point one would expect an unbreakable shell. The egg is probably shrinking within and the seriousness of the egg certainly lends no promise of a comfort or reward that would calm any Hatchling which might be inside. Green Recoath - FleuryRecoath doesn't march. That much is true but the way she does move along in time with her clutchmates is almost sickening. It's a swaggering prance that indicates a belief in what she's doing. Along with her tiny delicately featured form, there is nothing that keeps Recoath from moving with ease. There isn't a shadow of a doubt left that could slow her determinedly quick pace. She's a green with somewhere to go and Recoath intends to get there without hesitation. Light shadows highlight tensed rippling features and give her what looks like a molded clay texture. Despite that, her hide is perfectly smooth save for where it dips around gentle muscles. Based on American Revolution: British All Together Now - Or Not EggBronze Boruth - Sh'rauiBoruth is a large, dark bronze, with somewhat reddish highlights. While not the largest of dragons, his presence gives the impression of being far larger than he actually is. He has a lot of brute strength, and even at hatching, his muscles are surprisingly well developed. One gets the feeling that as an adult, he could be a Wing unto himself. Based on Brian Boru Mommy, Where Did The Water Go? EggAt first it seems as if this Egg may have hit the sand a little harder than then others because large cracks seem to be patterned across it. Risk Jenith's wrath by reaching to run your fingers along those cracks though, and you'll find the shell there just as smooth as it is on any of the other eggs - the "cracks" are just rather deceptive darker lines. Certainly this Egg seems suited to its place in the hotter part of the Sands where the sun can beat down upon it. Perhaps it's better not to watch it too long though, else you may find yourself wanting a drink. Green Chicruth - LeoniThere's something about Chicruth that will always look young, even when she's fully adult. Perhaps it's the softness of her hide - like a fine, supple leather, perhaps the very pale green shade of it, perhaps her small size - even for a green, or maybe just a certain look in her eye. Whatever it is, it is certain that she is one of life's babies, and it is unlikely to be something she'll ever grow out of. Her rider may find that she's being mistaken for a Weyrling dragon even several decades on. Based on Childrens Crusades Outside Alliances EggThis beauteous gem has a way of making you do just what it wants. You will want this egg to contain your little lifemate, whether you are here to Impress or not. Will you do as this egg bids? Will you come and wait breathlessly for it to hatch before seeing any other? Green Cleoth - FelyneThis small green dragon appears at first as one that might well be overlooked. Why would any candidate want a dragon that did not stand out in a crowd? The green of her hide is a dull but deep forest color. She has a few mucky looking patches on her hide that appear as though it has not been kept properly and oiled well, even if that isn't the case. Her size is average to small for a green dragon and as she grows she will remain one of the smaller greens. Based on Cleopatra Resting In Peace EggNor does it have a bright or vivid color to disturb that restful feeling. Instead it gleams a faded white, plain beside the other Eggs. Only if looked at from a distance do the shadows seem to fall on it slightly oddly, creating hollows and dark spots until ... could it be made of bone? No of course not. But even if it *were* made of bone, it doesn't seem the type of Egg to inspire alarm at all. It just continues sitting quietly in its spot, never rocking or making a fuss. Lower your voice when you're near it - it's busy resting in peace. Green Bawelth - NyemilSome human children are cursed with a face that seems to indicate that they are eternally plotting some naughtiness or another, the type of look that makes adults glance their way suspiciously and fill their hands with tasks to ensure they stay safely out of mischief. Bawelth has the draconic version of this curse. From the time she first Hatches, she'll have a way of sitting hunched up just *so*, the tip her dark green tail neatly wrapped around one of her legs and with a certain thoughtful expression that just seems to *shout* that she's plotting something she shouldn't be. Based on First Bishop of Bath and Walls Like Swiss Cheese EggBut there is a pull to this egg that is undeniable. One cannot resist reaching out to feel those markings then realizing that they suddenly cannot breathe. A floating feeling consumes them as they become mesmerized, hoping someone grabs them before they drift away. This is an odd egg indeed. Blue Neilth - ShaelereHave you ever looked up at the night sky, the full moon making the color that much brighter? That's what Neilth's hide looks like. The dark blue dragon of average size has small sky blue 'stars' littering his hide ... not in a large concentration but enough to make him sparkle. Based on First Man on the Moon/Neil A. Armstrong The Fur and Dirt EggBrown Silesith - T'rienSilesith could have been called 'Dragon of hapless achievement'. From the moment that he tumbles from his egg, his hide is a tawny brown to match the shell that he'd hatched from. There are certain hints of canine-ness to him; his claws are wide and big, a hint to the size he'll later grow to. His head-knobs are somewhat crooked, but other than that Silesith is a beautiful, large brown. Based on Friedrich II Burnt Offerings EggLook more closely though, and other shapes appear, buried in the darkness. Here - a gleam of white - perhaps of bone? And there, the shapes faint among the ashes, the stubble of what might once have been someone's crops. And be careful, because there, around the bottom of the Egg there is a dull red glow as if the fire has not yet quite gone out. It would be better perhaps, just to stand and watch this Egg rather than reaching out to touch it. After all, it *might* still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Blue Haryth - Roridyyra (Rori)Haryth is a large, rather pudgy blue. Throughout his life he will have a love for food - *especially* food he isn't supposed to have. Herdbeast is good, but he will stare at his rider's food with hopeful eyes until it is shared. Pies, vegetables and cooked foods may not be good or normal for a dragon, but he *wants* them and he *likes* them. Based on Harrying of the North Wings of Freedom EggBeyond its beauty, this egg pulls at the heart. It asks you to look deeper inside yourself. Those finely feathered wings are spread in flight. 'Fly away,' this egg seems to whisper to you, 'Fly away from anything trying to keep you down. Fly to freedom on my wings of love.' You might have problems in your life, you might have terrors in your nights, you may even have lived through atrocities tearing at your very soul. This egg offers you hope. It speaks silently of a life unlike anything you could ever truly believe real. The egg promises wings of freedom, open wide, giving hope from all oppression. Brown Survith - Ed'jornMaybe this hatchling wasn’t ~supposed~ to live. What a horrible thing to say! Yet inside this beautiful shell seemingly made of delicate cut glass, covered in the most perfectly etched feathers is a horrifically emaciated, starving brown hatchling. Based on Holocaust-Survivor Fire On A Stick EggBut something in it seems uninterested, as if it will abandon you at the crucial moment and leave you to fend for yourself. Perhaps it will trap you in its lair and make you believe that it is yours, only to disappoint you on Hatching Day. Or maybe it is just the colors on its shell that are deceptive. Green Jehanneth - TsorycaA pale and gentle colour covers the hide of this green dragon. She is almost the colour of the new buds on trees in the spring. Her soft eyes are full of watchfulness, following the movement of those around her with a look of interest. This is a beautiful green dragonet that will grow into a prime figure of a dragon. Based on Joan of Arch and the French thing The Jingle Jangle EggHow many marks, as little as there were, did all that hard work earn for the person who paid them? A finished harp could resell for far more than the cost of labor. A finished *anything* could! Why work for anyone who would take that added value and pocket it themselves? And think of those exploitative Craft stalls at the gather! Why, those rotten, fecking... Blue Commith - Alv'nnThere are idealists in the world, and there are madmen. Sometimes, there are madmen who happen to be idealists and idealists who cling so tightly to their ideals, cling so desperately, that they become something near to madmen. Based on Karl Marx The Discovery EggGreen Sacagath - TumaliA firm sturdy green, Sacagath already towers as the largest green in this clutch. Her unwavering form is adorned with pine needle hide and grassy green feet. The petite wingsails are easily maneuvered, posing no problem for Sacagath when she's hatched. It's later when flying that she'll have to work harder than her clutchmates. Based on Lewis and Clark Expedition/Sacagawea dragon Chains of Oppression EggYou can’t look at this egg without your heart aching for the oppressed dragon that surely must be growing inside. Swirls of dark brown bleed together with crimson drops of what can only be blood. Anyone allowed close enough to this egg will tentatively reach out to touch the bloody drops and swear their finger comes away sticky, if not drenched in real blood. There is a great sadness surrounding this egg that makes you want to cry for whatever unbelievable existence it once lived. Perhaps the dragon inside can set this tortured presence free. We can only hope. Bronze Ablinketh - L'arsAblinketh has a lean face, long in the muzzle, with overhanging eye ridges that give him very deep set eyes. This bronze also has a noticeably distinct solitary mole on the right side of muzzle that stands out on the warm brassy hide around his face. While his facial hide is soft it is also a bit wrinkled- as if he hasn’t grown into it fully- though it will forever appear this way. As he ages he will take on the countenance of one aging roughly. He’ll look very weathered as life takes a toll on him harshly. Based on Lincoln American President Filled with Conviction EggThere is a dark beauty around this undaunted sphere. Dark swirls of carmine and azure glide rather than creep along the surface. Final streaks of white are the only brightness of the egg, the pale color somehow managing to keep from seeming to be incomplete spots on the sphere's surface. The dark crimson, cerulean, and white tendrils intertwine and finish the egg. It is whole, and it is *perfect*. The sphere seems to almost laugh at the other eggs around it. After all, that aura of conviction also seems to be one of utter assurance that this egg knows what's best for anyone and everyone nearby. Blue Spierreth - AikeeFrom the moment this blue escapes the confines of his egg, he will be filled with conviction that he is right. Spierreth truly believes himself to be more intelligent than any of his Clutchmates. Based on Maximilian Robespierre Wash, Rinse and Repeat EggIs it even safe to approach the egg? Someone has done their best to make the threat of this egg obvious. There's not even a drop of water anywhere for those that brave the windblown streaks of sand from the core desert. And who would dare cross the raging storm of sand? Perhaps the egg has issued a challenge to see who is worthy of its grand prize. No matter the answer to that, there's not a single part of the egg that is untouched by the scattering grains that spiral the egg. The sand thins to specks against the pale blue sky only to have the storm intensify as it reaches full spiral, reborn with more sand. It allows the entire egg to have some amount of sand on an otherwise cloudless blue sky. Brown Temujth - FiontanTemujth is one of those few dragons that can claim to have hatched dirty. In fact, he is quiet proud of his belief that dirt couldn't hinder him in any way shape or form. He makes it clear with expansive gestures that he is a vibrant creature. Those fierce motions are brought forth by a sense of pride in his doings. Given a choice, the brown would rather listen to his own inner decision than take orders from anyone else around. He has such a grand sense of self-esteem that it is hard to believe that he's merely average in size. No one can fully tame him from determined desires, nor would they be able to convince him that he is dirty. In his complete confident manner, Temujth is convinced that his sandy brown hide is unable to acquire dirt despite the tinge of dusty layers on his wings. It's a coloration that can't be washed or shaken off since that is how the brown is supposed to appear. Based on Mongol Invaders (Genghis and Kublai Khan) The Return to the Fields EggOr perhaps, how dare such a peaceful day mar a battlefield? Brown Autunth - C'dusAutunth believes in the supremacy of ... himself! As well he should, given his seeming unstoppable-ness. This little brown will grow from a curious and somewhat self-important dragonet, into a small, squat, brilliant egoist. Autunth's rider will notice that the egoism manifests itself (if indeed he can even detect the strain of self-interest in his dragon) as the Brown pushing its own wants, whims and ideas forward as something that would benefit both rider and dragon. Based on Napoleon Bonaparte False Tranquility EggBlink … and the spots appear to have moved. The blob gets larger for a second, then returns to its normal state. It must be just a trick of the sun. There is something rather translucent about this egg, the colors almost sliding about as the sunlight deepens. Though originally the egg gives off a sense of tranquility, as soon as the viewer is drawn closer, a sense of foreboding might run through their mind. There is nothing comforting or warm about this egg; instead, it remains unmoved and uncaring, heedless of those watching it. It is enveloped in a silvery-blue shield from the worries of the world, enclosed with its own. Blue Yamamoth - A'dreoYamamoth is a wiry, medium-sized dragon, the blue-green color of a sun-warmed pool of standing water. His wingspan is impressive and he moves with grace, despite the fact that his body is compact and tightly muscular. He is a pleasure to watch in flight as his movements are smooth and fluid, derived from the grace that he was born with. Even watching Yamamoth's speedy walk is enchanting. If he didn't open his mouth, he would make a lovely picture of tranquility. Based on Pearl Harbor (Japanese perspective) Burning Mountain EggUnder the white mist this egg is filled with foreboding. This egg might be worse for you than you might first expect. If you come much closer you will get dragged into its tide of melancholy. There are rivers of dark brown flow under the white mist, rivers burning with fire and anger. Would you dare touch this egg, let alone embrace it? Brown Vesuvith - G'ianThe brown of this dragon’s hide is dark, the deep dark brown of cocoa beans or klah bark. His head has an even darker shade, appearing to be almost greyish black rather than brown, until he lifts his muzzle to the sun where the hints of the brown color are clearer. His eye ridges are more pronounced than most, forming a slightly larger protected area than normal from which bright eyes follow everything that is going on. Based on Pompeii Crossed Channels EggBlue Ansazith - PrewinThere is too much energy in the young blue for Ansazith to blend in with any surroundings. He is a pure water-colored blue that would be difficult to spot if the blue could stay still long enough to disappear. Ansazith is too huge for a blue anyway and with his wings spread there is probably no larger blue around. Not that Ansazith would ever swim, he's a horrible swimmer in deep water. The shallow water is enough to make him trip or stumble constantly, creating an adventure in merely bathing him. As far as he's concerned, the evil water will try to eat him if he wanders out too deep. Being the sort to run in fear, once spooked over something, the superstitious blue will stay spooked. He would rather run away instead of facing a frightening situation. Based on Pueblo Bonito/Chaco Canyon A World of Deceit EggAfter all, the colors facing the entrance of the Hatching Grounds are bright and cheerful. It seems to almost be a scene of a pleasant summer's day. Pale jade covers the lower half of the sphere, making many candidates suddenly long to run barefoot on a grassy knoll. The upper half of the egg is the pale blue of a sunny sky, with a few wisps of white that are shapeless clouds. If someone moves to walk *around* the egg, however, they'll be in for quite a surprise. For on the other side of the egg, the scene has darkened. The charming blue hue of the sky has turned to a tumultuous grayish-blue, and the green has the faintest hint of brown, as if the grass has wilted. There is a sense of despair on this side of the egg, and candidates glancing at this side will suddenly recall times when they'd been tricked by people they'd considered friends. In the churning darkness, there's the faintest hint of a dark brown structure, but even if someone strains their eyes, they won't be able to distinguish *what* the structure is. Some candidates might focus on the *pleasant* side of the sphere, trying to pretend that the darker scene isn't there. Still, after seeing that they've been deceived, the egg will probably be ignored until the Hatching. Green Mesalth - O'rantA tiny, delicate green whose mindvoice often throbs with the intensity of someone who believes she's doing what's best for *everyone*, Mesalth is a snitch who would have been better off at a place like Fort. She'll listen in on conversations meant to be private. Then Mesalth will report them to her rider or to an older dragon who will know what to do. Based on Salem Witch Trials Field Of Green EggBlue Padraith - KrystuhPadraith is a medium-sized blue, with alternating light and dark ripples making his hide shimmer, especially when freshly oiled or wet. In the water on a bright sunny day, it can be extremely difficult telling exactly where he ends and the water begins. While escaping the egg that had nurtured him, a large piece sliced a jagged cross-shaped scar into his side. Based on St. Patrick Not Waving But Drowning EggBut this is no peaceful scene of children playing on the beach. This is a stormy sea - look how the waves froth angrily, ready to crash down and swallow you whole. And there, among the blue, is a white blob. Perhaps only another speck of foam, but stare long enough and it seems to almost take on the shape of a hand, reaching out from the water in the desperate hope of rescue. Blink though, and it is gone. The more imaginative might say that the sea has sucked it under, but others will know that it's only a trick of the light. There was never a hand there - it was just another white dot that now once again looks like foam in the water. No one could really be drowning in there. It's only an Egg... Brown Anicath - Br'chuIt's a good thing that Anicath Hatched in Arolos, because he'd never have survived long in a Northern Weyr. Throughout his life the brown dragon will have an aversion to the cold. Even Arolos winters will be whimpered piteously about, and Faranth help his rider if they ever have to visit anywhere with snow and ice. Anicath may just refuse to land for fear that *stuff* will rise up and attack him!
