Appearance: Ratin's face, even for a preteen, is delicate, sexless. He gives the impression of being younger then he is with his large vulnerable seeming eyes and china doll features.
His eyes themselves are the deep blue of shadowed water and are striking against the dark brown, almost black of his hair. He much prefers to keep his hair longer though it is often forcibly trimmed by his foster father. At the moment he is barely five foot and may grow till anything from 5'5 to 5'8 in height.

Personality: Can you say suspicious for me? Ratin is always expecting there to be a reason for everything. You say hello to him? he just /know/ there is a reason. You give him a spice cake and he's almost certain that you want something back from him, or its poisoned. He is one who makes aquaintences more then friends- he will learn as much as possible from his 'friends' while only giving the briefest details back.
He is a quieter lad, never really drawing attention to himself. He sort of just blends into the background watching and listening.
He isn't paranoid though. It's just how his da taught him to deal with people.

The lastborn of a rather prolific redstar family, Ratin was always the apple of his fathers eye. He was also his youngest older sister Anona's favourite. Both had a great deal to do with how he grew into the person he is.
Anona fostered his love of beaten music- drums and the like, while his da, well, he taught him how to sneak, and how to be as indistinguishable as possible. It was also his da who taught him how to use his ears and not his mouth.

It was also his da who, when he was ten, shattered his heart. He abandoned the two youngest at FEH under the guise of Anona starting her apprenticeship. He told him he was going to stick about, at least for a while. That was the last conversation he has had with him.
He has stayed at FEH, even after his sister was searched not long after, on the pretext that their da needed to be able to find them.
After it became apparant that he was there alone, he was taken in by an older holdbred family. While not treated bad, he doesn't much get along with them- more because of his own reticence then anything else.
Having just turned twelve, he is interested in pursuing Harpering- especially drumming. Its something that he has a real passion for.
That and he likes how drumming can sound like a heart beat. It's kinda soothing like, you know?

Well, he found that he rather spend the day outside, and he was taken in by Old Brax, the master beastcrafter, Her has been learning at his hand how to manage runners.
