J'kaiCharacter type: Dragonrider Appearance: J’kai stands almost an even 6 feet, with a whipcord-lean build that makes him look taller than he is, since he never really seemed to "fill out" all that much. He is much stronger than he looks, mostly from having been an active Rider for roughly the last decade, easily able to handle the largest of firestone sacks, yet he possesses a curious kind of grace and delicacy of touch that would have served him well as a harper. His hair, usually kept fairly short, is a medium brown with some streaks of gold and red that have been bleached into it by the sun, moreso now that he's moved South. He keeps himself clean-shaven for the most part, though from time to time, he has attempted a light mustache and goatee, mostly to offset the youthfulness of his features back when that bothered him more. His eyes appear dark brown most of the time, but in the right lights they show hazel qualities with flecks of green and blue. Personality: J’kai is introspective and thoughtful. He is a level-headed and observational individual with an eye for detail and a harper’s ear for music and rhythm. He wouldn’t have picked dragonriding as a profession, being rather too deeply wrapped up in his harper studies, but decided at Searching when he was fourteen that he could possibly fulfill an even more important duty to Pern. Rather than reminding the holds and halls of their obligation to the Riders, he had the chance to become a Rider. History: J’kai, his given name Jarekai, came into a family of little means and much of what he remembers of his home is overlaid with a constant feeling of hunger and some of the emanating guilt from parents who desperately wanted to provide for their two children but simply could not make ends meet. Still, memories of home elicit in him a sense of love and genuine caring that extended beyond the physical needs. There was never a question that his parents cared and wanted what was best for J’kai and his brother. Information about J'kai's dragon Dragon Name: Khyrth Colour: Brown Age: 11 Wing (Weyrling Group): Skystrikers Appearance: Khyrth is a rather small brown, almost to the point of being incapable of flying an entire Fall. As it is, he usually comes down from one a bit off-color from complete exhaustion and requires a nap of several hours and possibly a trip to the hunting grounds before he feels anything like himself again. He is the clear brown color of light molasses and an almost walnut-shaded darker dorsal stripe down his spine from muzzle to tail-tip that makes him quite the eye-catcher, for a brown. Personality: He is a level-headed creature who knew his place in the rank-and-file of Fort Weyr, yet generally took his rider’s approach to things in not really ever pressing his advantage. He knows enough, though, to know that if he can use his position as a brown to keep others safe and in-line in Fall, he can and will without hesitation. He is very protective of –his-, as is any dragon, but almost to a fault. He has a knack for knowing what others around him need or want almost before they know it themselves, which makes him a good follower to a strong leader. There is nothing he won’t do for his rider, his superiors, or his weyr. Khyrth is also a very steady brown, he knows his mind, is generally quite articulate, and is personable enough to usually mention other dragons’ riders by name. He usually has a good memory and is generally a loyal, dependable creature. Weyr of Origin: Fort Abilites and weaknesses: Khyrth has limited stamina due to his somewhat smaller size, but with that exchange has come a greater level of agility. He's also got a slightly better memory than one would expect, with ability to remember more details for longer... or maybe he's just good at finding J'kai's memories and making use of them.
