AltecaName Pronounced: AL-teh-ca Appearance: Alteca is 5'8" tall and fully grown. She has light-brown hair, cut shoulder-length, and her mother's blue eyes. She has a faint scar from a dog-bite on her left fore-arm, which she used to be self-conscious about but hardly notices any more. Personality: Alteca grew up surrounded by boys --- her brother, her mother's fosterlings at the Southern Harper Hall, and all the former fosterlings dropping in from time to time. With so many boys around she might have grown up a tomboy, but this didn't happen. While her brother was encouraged to play with her mother's fosterlings, Alteca stayed close to her mother and learned to help her around their apartment at the Harper Hall. With all those boys getting rips in their clothes, she also had to learn hemming, darning, and patchwork, and was quite handy with these housewifely skills by the age of 11 turns. Later Alteca became quite ingenious at decorating, with ribbons, beads, and tiny sea-shells, the plain dresses her mother made her. With admiring glances from all those boys, and compliments from her mother's friends, she might have developed a swollen head, but her brother and his friend Cabrel deflated her when they considered it necessary. A couple of jealous classmates took to snipping off the odd ribbon or fancy touch here and there till her school-dress looked messy enough for their liking. Realising that her clothes were coming between her and her friends, she reduced the fancy-work to a minimum on her everyday clothes, and learned not to stand out too much. History: Alteca is the daughter of Harper Alexin and his wife Danteca. While her father traveled the length and breadth of Arolos on 'harper business', Alteca spent her childhood at the Southern Harper Hall with her mother, brother Danexin, and an ever-changing cast of foster-brothers, as her mother usually took in any boy sopranos or altos who were too young to apprentice. Information about Alteca's pets Pet Name: Tangles Pet Type: Blue Firelizard Appearance: Tangles, now about 4 turns old, is a small, slender flit. In close quarters he tends to fly short hops and check for unexpected obstacles, which looks distinctly odd. Personality: Tangles was only a few hours old when he decided to use Alteca's wool-basket for a bed, and got tangled up in the skeins --- hence his name. Next day he accompanied her to her weaving class and got in a tangle with her loom. Since then he's very wary of the objects in his vicinity and has developed an odd flight-pattern to avoid any possible obstacles. He can find his way between to all the places Alteca visits within the Weyr, and to the local Healer and Harper Halls, and the Vintner Hall in the New Territories where Alteca's parents lived until recently, and he makes a very reliable messenger. Information about Alteca's dragon Dragon Name: Valinth Colour: Blue Age: 4 turns Wing (Weyrling Group): Unforgettables (Adoptables Wing) Appearance: One of the biggest of his blue brothers, Valinth is a stocky blue to be sure. He isn’t particularly long, something of a sore spot with him, but even when he first appears on the sands he’ll look slightly intimidating for a blue. He’ll make up for his short length with muscle. His hide is a pale blue with few markings except a darker, navy blue patch on his head that runs down low over his eyes. Personality: Despite his stocky build, Valinth handles himself extremely well. Perhaps he’s not graceful, but he’s practical… painfully so at times. Valinth knows what he can handle, and will be a surprisingly durable blue in threadfall. He’ll be one of the last of his blue brothers to call it quits, and one of the first to take off.
