Forest Edge Hold DescriptionForest Edge Hold is a high-ranking hold because of the great wealth of goods it provides for the entire area. The forest yields high quality woods, both soft and hard. In the vast fields crops of Earth Flax, Sisal and cotton are raised to trade with the Weavercraft Hall. Along with the crops raised for the Weavercraft Hall, great crops of produce are provided in abundance. High-yield grains, root vegetables, redroots, tubers, corn, onions, and so on are all planted. Because of the exceptionally warm weather crops are grown year round. The main hold itself has an Eastern face, as all holds do to watch for Thread. A vast expense of land has been made into a paved Courtyard. Upon entering this hold you walked right into the Great Hall. The Great Hall is extensively decorated in a very elaborate almost gaudy fashion. The high ranking of the hold is clearly established with one look through the Great Hall. Moving through the hold you can find a private study, a music room, a sitting room, and a meeting room (where the children have their lessons). Further into the hold are the children's bedrooms, the master bedroom, all with private baths. On the North side of the hold are the visitor's quarters, of which there are several to hold a vast number of visitors. It is in the best of these rooms the resident harper should reside. On the South side of the hold is the huge kitchen and very large stores. Off the kitchen is a small dorm-like room that houses the kitchen staff and the holds drudges that do not reside in small cotholds of their own, of which most don't. Littered throughout the hold are little known secret passageways, some leading out of the hold altogether. There is a second floor to the hold. The support staff is housed up there for the most part, those not involved in the kitchens. The second floor is sectioned off into three separate parts. The West end is strictly for the drudges, the middle section is littered with old rooms packed with various storage items. Those middle rooms are kept off limits for the most part and have been allowed to collect dust. The East end has a slew of rooms that are kept clean and ready for any unexpected visitors, perhaps dragonmen on a search, or those visiting from afar during a Gather. Inside the hold, there is a well system that carries water throughout the hold proper. The fields are watered through irrigation from the Big Arolos River. There are several small wells out near the small cot holds that provide water for the masses. Outside of the hold proper and to the South are a string of buildings housing the farm crafters, beastcrafters, tanners, smithcrafters there is even a good size infirmary and a healer's quarters off that, along with a small dorm-type room for the healer assistants. Both animal and human are treated there, the animals mostly treated as outpatients. The hold also boast an extensive kennel set up, where they breed hunting and spit dogs. Off to the Northwest there is a large building originally constructed as a Hold Meeting Cot where the peasants, Lord Holder and his entourage would meet to discuss Hold affairs. The Hold Meeting Cot was quickly turned into the Cot Tavern, only known to the peasants as such. The Meeting House caretaker, a very jovial man, allows the lower class to have their after hour gatherings inside and around this building. It's not unusual to find some form of entertainment taking place there after a long days work and the people are looking to unwind. To the North of the Hold Meeting Cot is a Timber building. It is there that lumber is left to season. Off to the side of that building is a large bunk cot that houses the lumberjacks. Off to the Southwest are scattered in vast numbers the small cot holds of the laborers and their families most of which work in and around the Hold themselves. To the East are huge fields used in the produce planting, along with fields for the large number of herdbeasts used for farming and the like. During prosperous times Forest Edge Hold has thrived. The people, lower and upper class were happy, replete with their basic needs, and then some, met. In the not to distant past a particular bad crop of grain was raised with an unknown blight wiping out more than half of what was produced. Suffering from this stunning loss the laborers became quite concerned about their futures. Trying to talk with the Lord Holder Nikolai and his people suddenly became almost impossible. Rumors of growing sickness in the Lord Holder Nikolai's son spread and though sympathetic the laborers were in fear for their livelihood. More rumors of the Lady Holder Catalenia becoming obsessed with a known vagabond noted for his extreme eccentricities in the healing craft spread and the people became even more disconcerted. Just in the last few months even stranger things have begun to happen. Thread has been allowed to fall on their fields! Trouble at Arolos Weyr has extended to their lands and they are no longer assured of dragonrider protection, which has brought it's own brand of fear with it. A quarter of one field was lost to Thread during the last fall, and that on top of the blighted crop, have raised grave concerns.
