Appearance: Even without the dark circles under his eyes or the angry red scar across his face, both which he’s carried since that abortive night when Fort fell to the resistance, L’tianys would be a striking looking man. Fierce, some would even say, with his thick, dark brown hair, sharp brown eyes, and heavy brow - an image emphasized by the perpetual scowl on his face. Only the laugh lines around his eyes remain as a whisper of kinder, happier past times.

Endowed with broad shoulders and a respectable 6’ in height, L’tianys has a commanding physical presence. His body is dense and heavily muscled, with very little in the way of unnecessary fat, suggestive of not only an active lifestyle, but also great physical discipline.

Personality: To most people, L’tianys will come off as cold and distant. He keeps all would-be friends and acquaintances at bay with a shield of chilly civility, letting no one close. Just as well, as his temper rides on a knife’s edge. While he is generally successful at keeping it in check, the smallest, most unpredictable thing could be enough to crack his otherwise formidable self control. And woe be to the one who’s there when he does explode, for L’tianys has a sharp tongue and a caustic wit and is afraid to use neither. Oddly enough, he’s never resorted to physical admonishments. That’s the one line he will not cross, even when in a towering rage.

He is bitter and cynical, almost to the point of paranoia. He questions everyone’s motives and even the evidence of his own eyes will be taken with a grain of salt. It is difficult to tell which he despises more, a liar or a hypocrite.

Hardworking and driven, L’tianys throws himself headlong into his work because he has little else left to care about. He is exacting and demanding, and will hold those around him to the same high standards as he holds himself.

Strangely enough, those who knew L’tianys from Fort would speak of a far different man, gentle and compassionate, warm and charismatic. An honorable man, they’d say, a strong believer in the old traditions of dragonkind and scrupulously fair because, or perhaps in spite, of that.

History: L’tianys was born Laetianys, the son of a bronzerider and a gold candidate - the proud scion of a long line of dragonriders, many of whom rode browns and bronzes. His mother transferred out of Fort shortly after his birth but his father remained to have a direct hand in his raising.

Laetianys had a relatively uneventful childhood. He was a quiet, thoughtful child, who matured into a confident and competent young man. He was expected to impress well and to rise high. He did not disappoint. Shortly after his seventeenth birthday, he was approached on the hatching sands by a large bronze hatchling who introduced himself as Kaloth.

And it got better from there. Two years later, L’tianys and Kaloth graduated weyrling training with the highest commendations. Two more years in the fighting wings and they’d gain a reputation as one of the more talented rider pairs in the Weyr, an asset to the wings. Five years more saw him as Wingsecond.

He was living the charmed life. Young, smart, and successful, with an impeccable pedigree. No doors were closed to him. A Wingleadership, perhaps even a Weyrleadership, could be his in a matter of years. He even had an adoring weyrmate, a beautiful and clever greenrider named Nalatia, whom he loved with all his heart.

Then, that night happened - the night of the Fort Rebellion.

Try as he may, L’tianys will never remember what it was that woke him that night, but he has no trouble remembering what came next - the soft hiss as a knife left its sheath. He grappled with his unknown assailant, unrecognizable in the darkness of the unlit weyr. By some combination of superior strength and extraordinary luck, he managed to overpower his mysterious assassin, but not before receiving several wounds, including a nasty gash across his right cheek. Only when his opponent laid dead did L’tianys finally get the opportunity to uncover the glowbasket by his bed. The first thing he saw by the light of those glows was his beloved Nalatia, staring up at him in death, with her own knife sticking out of her chest.

The rest of that night passed in a blur. Shocked by Nalatia’s betrayal, dizzy from the blood loss, and bewildered by the sounds of escalating fighting outside his door, he did the only thing that he could think of: he fled on Kaloth to the High Reaches, where his father had kin.

The next year was a difficult one for him. Still reeling from the events that had cost him everything, L’tianys lashed out everyone and anyone who tried to come near him. He was still effective during threadfall, but his wingleaders found his attitude outside of fall impossible to deal with. After spending several months transferring from wing to wing, the Weyrleader finally put his foot down, and told L’tianys to leave the Weyr.

With little left to lose, L’tianys put in a transfer request to the one Weyr that might still take him - Arolos.

L'tianys quarrels with the Weyrwoman during the hatching feast for the Death Defiers and ends up spending time in the cells.

L'tianys was surprised to find himself named the new Wingleader of Direflame Wing. Will the responsibility of leading a wing be enough to pull him from his depression? Would he ever be able to convince his wingriders to trust a bronzerider from Fort?

Dragon Name: Kaloth

Colour: Bronze

Appearance: Kaloth is a big dragon, even for one of his color, a great hulking brute of a beast. His body is heavily muscled and evenly proportioned. His head is wider than usual and endowed by a very prominent set of eye ridges, giving him an extra ferocious appearance.

His bronze hide carries a reddish tinge, so that under the correct lighting it might even look copper. The coloring is even throughout his body and just a touch lighter on his underbelly. His only other defining feature is a threadscore scar down his left shoulder.

Personality: Despite his rather intimidating outward appearance, Kaloth is an even tempered, level-headed dragon and can be relied upon to keep his head under even the most stressful of scenarios. At times, only Kaloth’s soothing presence will succeed in pulling L’tianys out of one of his terrible rages or depressive moods.

Kaloth is not much of a talker, but he is a good listener - attentive and insightful. Unburden your heart to him and he will keep your confidences. Not even L’tianys will be able to pry those secrets out of him. In particular, he has a soft spot in his heart for young ones or anyone else he deems in need of protection, much to L’tianys’s dismay.

Kaloth is fond of the ladies. He will flirt and he will chase, making little distinction between greens and golds. Secretly, however, he’s a one-woman dragon at heart. He hasn’t found her yet, but once he meets his “one”, there will be no dragon more devote or loyal.

Weyr of Origin: Fort

Abilites and weaknesses: Kaloth is a large and powerful beast - well able to last all of fall and then some. That said, maneuverability and agility will always be a challenge for him.
