Appearance: Kassia is about 5 foot 6, average height. She has goldish-auburn hair, an odd, but beautiful, combination. In the summer when she is outside most often the gold in her hair presents itself. The rest of the time her red highlights outweigh the gold. Both combinations, however, are amazingly striking on her.

Kassia's eyes are a light grey, and on overcast days they even tend to take on a tint that appears almost silver.

Kassia is built well for her size, neither too skinny, nor too fat. She was blessed with ample curves, both in hips and breasts, but also with a nice set of muscles. The latter of which she keeps through the hustle and bustle of the Weyr and swimming, when she can manage it.

She has a rather noticeable scar on her left knee. After repeated injuries K'ren agreed to operate on her knee to try to repair it. Most of the worst of her pain and limping is gone, but the ugly scar remains.

Ever since the confrontation with the Weyrwoman from High Reaches where the WW attacked her and she was forced to kill her, the dagger that was created to look like the Silk Dagger egg is almost always on her person or within reach. On the blade is the inscription "For Foreth".

Personality: Kassia has matured a whole lot since her Candidate, Weyrling, and early goldrider days. Her increase in age and turns of unfortunate circumstances that she has had to work through have done wonders on her behavior. Her tendecy toward major and scary mood swings and quite unpredictable, occasionally violent behavior seem to be almost completely behind her. For the most part the only time they raise their ugly head is when Foreth is proddy or she is pregnant (a circumstance very unlikely to happen again). She's still prone to periods of slight depression or excess giddiness, but they are much closer to what normal people experience. And her angry moments are few and far between and controllable. Over all a kinder, gentler, more productive Kassia has emerged.

Unfortunately Kassia is prone towards over working herself. The job of a goldrider is never done, and it's far too easy for her to get sucked into 'Just a few more minutes of paperwork', 'I'll just talk to one more person needing help and deal with their problem', 'I'll just double check this tithe report one more time'. All of a sudden it's late into the evening and she hasn't eaten lunch, much less dinner.

Going hand-in-hand with her tendency to be a workaholic is her tendency to want to have a hand and control of everything. Given half a chance, she'll run all over everyone from the wingleaders to the head woman and all the way up to the Weyrleader as she prefers to call the shots and things get done faster that way.

History: Kassia's history is even longer and more confusing than her personality. Kassia was born to two loving parents at Fort Weyr. Well, they started out loving anyway.

In all fairness it wasn't really their fault, but things did not stay very pleasant for long. Kassia's parants, her mother Kasai, and her father S'ilan had been very proud of their daughter's birth and remained so for a good year or so. They doted on her, bought the finest clothes and things that a dragonrider and drudge could afford, and generally lavished attention on her of all kinds.

This did not, however, last for very long. Soon Kasai, who had always been the jealous and needy sort, began to crave the attention that her Weyrmate was giving to their daughter. S'ilan, realizing Kasai's needs began to divert his attention back to his lovely Weyrmate, although he had never thought he'd neglected her.

Still, Kassia's mother had started on a downward spiral and she refused to come back. It was too easy to fall into the pattern of being depressed until someone takes notice and gives you attention. This cycle went on for years, growing worse and worse. S'ilan refused to give up paying attention to his daughter, whom he loved dearly, but he did spend a fair bit on Kasai, who he loved just as dearly -even if she did try his patience.

Unfortunately Kassia grew up in this situation, even if she did not quite grasp the whole reasoning of it. Although it did not affect her much at the time, her parent's actions at the time would leave distinct imprints on her own future actions.

At the age of 6, however, Kassia found herself in a bad spot. Her father had had enough of her mother. He couldn't bear it anymore. It was just beyond him to cope. So he did the only thing he had the guts to do, he left, abandoning his only child to the whims of his wife.

Kassia was torn by her father's exit. She had been very close to her father, relying on him for most familial actions as well as support. And then those few friends she had in the creche were lost to her when Kasai moved them back to her mother's natal hold. This heartbreak was further perpetuated as she was left to bear the brunt of her mother's depression. Poor Kassia suffered years of emotional and verbal abuse, buffered only occasionally by her uncle's visit, until Kassia was old enough to T'rif to 'Search' her.

It was also during this time, however, that two key figures were dragged into her life. One she met only briefly, only for a day as a matter of fact, and the other was a relative that would leave as many of his own imprints on her life.

The first she met was T'rifoshe, her mother's young bronze rider of a brother. He was almost 20 at the time, and had been a bronzer for a good four years. He'd been there for Kassia's birth, but had slipped out of her life soon later as he was Searched and whisked off to Stand.

When Kassia was 9, however, T'rif was able to reappear in Kassia's life, adding support and a buffer between her and Kasai where possible. Unfortunately his life as a rider meant he only had limited opportunities to be physically there for her.

The other person, Tilson, had met her one day at a Gather. Normally a chance meeting a Gather would be beyond mention, but the meeting would spark a series of events that would eventually lead to their weyrmating.

At the Gather Tilson fell in love with Kassia who had been nice to him. They spent the rest of the Gather together, inseparable. However, they were not to see each other again until many years later.

Kassia's mother hissed and screamed as T'rif pulled her last family from her. That was the last vision Kassia had her mother before she learned of Kasai's death a couple months later. Kasai had committed suicide.

Now Kassia, who was unable to contact her father, was more or less an orphan. Luckily she now had T'rif around for support almost constantly. (And in many ways he was more a parent to her than her own ever were.) With her uncle's support and protection Kassia managed to flourish for a short time in Fort Weyr, becoming amazingly independent for a woman within the Weyr, even in those days when things were slightly more relaxed.

During this time, however, she met a couple more important figures in her life. These characters would shape her life for many turns to come, and not for the good. The first of these was the Weyrwoman's son, Kemi. Kassia and Kemi became very good friends very quickly, despite the Weyr's habit of frowning on friendships with those lower than you.

At first this relationship was semi-beneficial, Kassia and Kemi got along great and Masena was forced to be at least civil to her, but in reality the woman always hated Kassia. She yearned silently to break up the friendship and send Kassia back down to the rank she deserved.

Her chance came about half a turn into Kassia and Kemi's friendship. Kemi had pulled a rather serious prank on Lord Barol, Fort Hold's Lord Holder. What was worse was that Lord Barol was Masena's brother, making Kemi's actions that much more problematic.

Finding himself caught right in front of Barol and a multitude of other high ranking officials, Kemi implicated Kassia. Kassia was willing to be punished for the crime if her best friend could save face so Kassia ended up taking the down fall publicly, and was disgraced by most members of the Weyr, even those of extremely low rank. This included Kemi who never did apologize for his actions.

Her position did not improve any when Kemi later confessed to his mother in private. Masena realized by that point that Kemi's actions could be extremely dangerous to the integrity of the Weyr and Hold so she redoubled her efforts to show Kassia as the perpretrator, as well as the corrupter of her son.

At first Kemi was sympathetic, even sneaking off at night to visit and comfort her. However this was soon stopped by his mother and his own shame and eventually even Kemi started believing that Kassia had persuaded him to pull the prank.

So now Kassia found herself an an outcast, completely alienated by almost everyone in the Weyr, whether because they actually hated her, or because they feared Masena's wrath. The only one left to her was T'rif.

This situation went on for almost five months before Kemi pulled another prank, this one not as serious, but enough that once again Kassia had to take the fall. This time Kassia was cast from the Candidate Barracks and denied the right to find another place to live within the Weyr. T'rif interceded by offering his own weyr until he was ready to leave for Arolos.

T'rif left soon after on the pretense of having a better rank at Arolos, but really so that he could secure the way for his neice's eventual transfer. Three months later this was realized when Kassia was moved from Fort Weyr to Arolos where she was officially Searched instead of just taken to Stand.

Here Kassia lived a rather tumultuous Candidatehood. She was constantly getting into trouble or causing problems. It was also during this time that she began adding to the knife collection she'd started in Fort Hold and then slightly increased at Fort Weyr. She had two actual knifes at this point that hadn't been stolen. The rest, another two, had been ah...acquired along the way, including one commissioned for Lord Barol (this one was later discarded) and one from Masena to Kemi. This one she hadn't really actually stolen, Kemi had loaned it to her and never asked for it back. For this reason Kassia could not part with it. The knife was a reminder of her happy days.

But, anyway, Kassia's knife collection grew slowly, but consistently, over the years. A collection she continues to add to today and she's almost never without an extra knife on her besides her belt knife, though most are more for decoration than actual use.

The next major event in her life came when she met Sarella. She and Sarella quickly became best friends. Soon, however, this relationship turned sexual, right about the same time that Sarella lost her virginity to K'ren. Later Sarella fell for L'tul so that Kassia was soon plunged into an odd threesome that failed more often than not.

Kassia loved Sarella dearly, but failed to get along with L'tul on most occasions even as they tried to have a sexual relationship as well. The constant friction grated on all their nerves, especially when Kassia's jealousy boiled over and she was often found sulking and trying to emotionally blackmail the two of them.

A good turn passed by while this continued, filled with a variety of important events, but the most important were the constant fights between the three, most initiated by Kassia's actions.
By this time one of L'tul's children had showed up, and two foster children, one deaf. Together the trio raised the children the best they could even with all the internal turmoil building between them.

Eventually, though, Kassia couldn't deal with it anymore, after threatening suicide, not for the first time, Kassia decided it was time to leave. (Or so she insisted, originally it was more of a combination of trying to black mail Sarella and L'tul and them being sick of her behavior.) So leave Kassia did, back to the Candidate barracks. She still occasionally visited the crew, but mostly only the children. The rest was just too painful.

Soon after Kassia and Sarella both became pregnant about the same time. It was another one of those tense times but it ended after a drunk bronze rider started attacking Sar in the Dining Hall. Kassia intervened and was beaten savagely while a number of people tried to pull the enraged, drunk man off of her.

In the end Kassia miscarried. Kassia was devastated by the loss, but managed to keep herself under relative control for another long while.

Sarella carried her child to term and further distance was put between her and her former lovers.

During her break from Sar and 'Tul an earthquake happened and Kassia screwed up her left foot pretty badly. Being stubborn, and incredibly stupid, at this point Kassia refused to report the injury. She walked on it a good sevenday, after wrapping it with reluctant help from Sarella, before K'ren was called down and fixed it properly for her (unfortunately by this time she'd messed her knee up as well). As a result she was left with a limp for a long time, something that still crops up on occasion.

Kassia was left in the barracks for another hatching or so before she, amazingly, Impressed Foreth in the Daystar clutch (8.07.04.15). This created another stir. Kassia? A candidate with no real care for the rules and a penchance for women Impressed a _Gold_? But she had, and there was nothing any one could do about it.

The next few months of Weyrlinghood were horrible for her and those around her. Kassia didn't feel she deserved Foreth anymore than than most anyone else did. As a result Kassia set out to become even more of a nuisance. If people thought that Foreth had made a wrong choice then Kassia was going to set out to make sure that they were proven correct.

The subsequent months before Foreth was ten months Kassia broke the 'no sex without permission' rule two or three times. Each time endangering Foreth, although less so the second time. The first time she nearly lost Foreth between. Eventually, however, she was given permission to have sex as Foreth was mature enough to handle it and finally stopped endangering her dragon.

For a little while about halfway through her Weyrlinghood Kassia got even worse. She grew horrid enough and disobeyed all the rules enough that she and Foreth were sequestered and put under guard in a weyr (with threats of giving Foreth firestone and sequestering them indefinitely thrown in to boot.) It was this move that eventually snapped Kassia out of her self-defeating reverie and partly changed the goldrider.

Later on, towards the end of her Weyrlinghood career, Kassia demonstrated this drastic change when she helped out during a few really dangerous events as well as teaching a variety of candidate and Weyrling classes.

However this was offset by her earlier mistake of getting herself pregnant. She'd caught B'lin, the Weyrling Master that she'd fallen in love with, or at least she thought so, during a gold flight and refused to take no for an answer. It was also around that time that she slept with another man, T'ilson, the boy who had fallen in love with her so long ago and who Kassia now held feelings for.

As a result Kassia never really knew who the father was, something she told eventually told both men. (Later it became obvious from Sarati's looks that the resulting daughter, Kasarati- who had 'Sar' tagged into her name to remeber Sarella-, was T'ilson's)

When she announced her pregnancy however, she approached B'lin first and tried to get him to Weyrmate her, or at least to accept the child as his own. When he refused to give up his job for the child Kassia stormed away and back into the arms of T'ilson. It was only then that she realized that she truly loved T'ilson. (Though T'ilson wasn't thrilled that it happened this way.)

Unfortunately she had a funny way of showing it. She pulled the same things on T'ilson as she had with Sar and L'tul although in some ways what she did to them was mild compared to how she treated T'ilson on some occasions.

The strain only got worse when Breteth flew one of the golds and he and the gold's rider ended up spending nearly the whole time from the moment the clutch was laid to the time it was hatched in each other's arms. As a result Kassia exacted her own revenge by acting on her desire to sleep with more people.

Eventually T'ilson had had enough and left. Kassia reacted badly started compulsively cutting herself and neglecting their children (as Kassia had given birth to their son Tilkan while they were together). T'ilson and Kassia argued over who was to watch their children. It culminated in Kassia slashing her upper arm with a knife in the presence of T'ilson and their children.

It took her a lot of work to convince T'ilson to let her have Kassarati back. They agreed that T'ilson would take Tilkan most of the time he wasn't in the Creche and Kassia would take Sarati. In reality Kassia seldom saw Tilkan in the beginning and then eventually she practically never saw him so they don't really have any relationship with each other. In her very confused head she only had room for Sarati and in reality Tilkan probably came off the better with T'ilson and his lifemate to shield him from Kassia's behavior.

But she wasn't lonely too, too long. Soon she was back in the arms of Sh'ain, her long time friend and occasional lover. She even learned to share him with his other Weyrmate and his long string of one night stands.

From Sh'ain she inherited another child, Shalia and soon had a third child from him. Kalain, a beautiful baby boy.

Update: 3/17/06
Later she met R'fian, who turned out to be her cousin- T'rifoshe's son. His dragon caught Foreth in her flight soon after.

At first Kassia felt like R'fian only wanted her because she was a goldrider and his dragon had caught hers. But when Foreth was injured during the tornado and had to land on Arolos Island R'fian came to Kassia as soon as possible and arranged to stay with her on the island as much as possible. Given that Arolos Island had a tendency to be used as a bit of a prisoners' island and by the Red Stars, it was useful to have him there if nothing else.

R'fian stayed with her the whole time on the island even after Foreth clutched before they were able to move her off island via a sling that was created.

Kassia and R'fian spent most of their time on Arolos Island getting to know each other in about every intimate way two people can, both emotionally and physically. They also occasionally had a blue rider named Saidey to join them in their furs adding some more fun to the equation.

While on the island Candidates were brought over to see the clutched eggs against Kassia's better judgement. Foreth was always very possessive about her eggs, but all that time pretty much with no other contact with other dragons besides Macaveth and Ormanth she became extremely possessive.

Unfortunately one stupid Candidate tried to touch one of the eggs against the express orders of Stryka and Kassia and Foreth reacted horribly and not only seriously injured that particular Candidate but she also injured other Candidates that got in the way.

After that Kassia was severely reprimanded and there were threats that she might be sent to the Weyrling Master to work on better controlling her Queen.

In the mean time between the fiasco with Foreth and the time the clutch hatched Kassia found out that she was pregnant again.

Eventually the clutch hatched though (although it was a rather odd hatching between the unusual Hatchlings and the fact that the Hatchlings had to waddle out of the cave where Foreth clutched to find their Lifemates. Almost as soon as the last Hatching found its Lifemate Kassia vaulted onto Foreth (who had been fit enough to fly for a while but obviously couldn't leave her eggs) and they returned to their weyr.

It was weird adjusting to being back in a proper weyr again and it was made even worse by the fact that she had to get back to her regular work and the fact that she no longer constantly had R'fian to herself unless he was flying drills.

To Kassia's great surprise R'fian sought her out after about a sevenday and ended up moving in with her. By this time Kassia knew that she loved R'fian and she soon found out that he loved her as well. They agreed to Weyrmate and at one Gather it turned into a Weyrwide event complete with the Master Harper of Pern officiating. Wygelle and her mother even got in on the act as they helped arrange things. Kassia and Wygelle's relationship deepened because of it.

On 8.13.10.24 their daughter Rassia was born and both parents were thrilled (even though R'fian had tried to insist that it'd better be a boy).

While Kassia was still in the Infirmary after Rassia's birth Weyrwoman Second Wygelle arrived bearing a cute dress for the little girl and the news that she would be assigning a guard to all of the goldriders. Kassia wasn't thrilled but she agreed.

After Kassia was released from the Infirmary with their new child the goldrider took a little while off and watched her new daughter. Unfortunately her baby blues had returned (though milder compared to her previous pregnancies) and by the time she returned to work she was quickly overwhelmed.

Update: 1-1-07

At the mid-summer Gather Kassia asked to reserve a bronze Callamere bronze egg and later retrieved the egg from Callamere. She Impressed bronze Brogan. She'd later train him to be her guard wher, a concept that quickly took off among the other goldriders and is now something of a tradition.

Since the ceremony Laranna stepped down and that left Ormanth and Foreth in a race to rise first and become Senior Queen. This made both dragons proddy for a month and left Kassia extremely paranoid and Wygelle eternally proddy. During this time Kassia and Wygelle both came to blows and ended up accidentally sleeping together. Something Kassia never told anyone else.

The day Ormanth rose Foreth panicked and tried to force herself to rise first. Ormanth ordered her down and Foreth strained a wing in the aftermath and dangerously exhausted herself.

Soon after a rider gone insane, R'quin, shot her in the neck and hindquarters thinking that Foreth was Ormanth and Foreth knocked Ormanth out of the way to protect the other gold. Afterwards it took a long time for her to recover but she has with the bonus of being a bit more friendly.

Later she found out that her mother, who she was told had committed suicide was alive and that she had a half-sister. Her half-sister had come to Arolos under the guise of escaping her mother's abuse, but she really had more sinister motives .

Long story short, her half-sister wreaked major havoc before exiting Kassia's life.

Later Foreth got shot with a crossbolt...again. This one landed close to her reproductive track although at first it was thought no damage was done. When it came time to rise she was caught and mated as usual. But there was a surprise a short time later as she rose again and again. Finally it was determined that there was scar tissue and only after that was cleared did she finally become gravid and stop torturing the Weyr with gold flight after gold flight.

The next tragedy to interrupt Kass's life was the arrival of Omie, a weyrkeeper that for a while was the lover of both Kassia and R'fian. Bad luck shown upon them and they both got pregnant from R'fian within a relative short time of each other. Both harbored jealousy, compounded by Omie's fear of abandonment of herself and her child by R'fian. The situation exploded when Kassia had a miscarriage that she didn't reveal and which resulted in a false pregnancy. This culminated in a psychotic episode where she believed that Omie's baby was her own. She had a further break down when she realized later what she'd done and after Omie fled the Weyr with her baby never to be seen again.

Time went on but relatively settled down.

Her most recent tragedy comes with Ormanth's flight. Macaveth, the lifemate of her weyrmate, died in a tragic freak accident when he collided with another male mid-flight. R'fian suicided almost immediately and Kassia and Foreth returned a while later to the unexpected loss. They managed to take their beloved mates between on their own and Kass is left to deal with the aftermath.

Time continues and Kassia has stepped up her responsibilities within the Weyr. She's also made a few new friends and over time is moving on after the loss of her beloved R'fian.

Update 1-2-12

Foreth clutches Valkath's egg

Kassia met and fell in love with Greenrider Avelay.

With the Beast Plague Kassia stepped up and took on more of a leadership role under Wygelle

Foreth rose and then clutched, including Zivath's gold egg

The Weyr is attacked and where Foreth's gold egg was laying was crushed. Foreth insisted the egg shards at the spot are not from her egg.

An elaborate plot ensued where it was determined that the egg shards were indeed imposters and Candidates were sent to the other Weyrs as spies.

Kassia lead a group of volunteers to High Reaches to retrieve the egg and in the process of confronting the High Reaches Weyrwoman, Jerasi, Jeri's lifemate went between in shame. Jerasi then attacked Kassia and is killed with the help of Kassia's Silk Dagger which was modeled after one of the eggs destroyed in the Cavern attacks.

The Candidate spies and gold egg were stolen by Red Stars and rogue riders, but Kassia and Foreth are forced to not give chase when Ormanth (who had come to help) began to rise at High Reaches and thus Kassia also became Weyrwoman Interim at Arolos.

The Candidates and gold egg all made it back and Impressed.

Now Kassia tackles the next challenge of being the Weyrwoman when so many in her past had wondered how she'd make it out of Weyrlinghood.

8.22.6.20- Foreth rises after a battle of dominance (via trying to beat each other in a flight race) with Valkath. Kassia officially becomes WW.

Recently Kassia has flexed her rank as Weyrwoman and made a few changes to the Weyr. One notable instance is her crusade to make sure whers are trained and safe to be around in the Weyr. And a joint effort with Callamere to create a new whercraft.

8.28.04.28 - Following her daughters getting drunk in the dining hall and an ill-advised conversation with her uncle (later determined to be fueled by proddiness), Kassia institutes an unpopular policy wherein riders are no longer paid their partial wages in wine.

Information about Kassia's pets

Pet Name: Brogan

Pet Type: Bronze Wher

Appearance: Brogan, a Callamere be a large bronze for a Callamere. He will not only be tall but bulky too. He is a burnished bronze with a reddish undertone that is more prominent along his back and the upper parts of his legs. His stomach and chest will be a lighter tone with a shade in between on the rest of his body.

Personality: Brogan is a bronze that, while a bit head strong at times, is actually relatively easy to train. He will be more friendly than a lot of bronzes but is still relatively aloof. As he grows older he will get more and more territorial of his home, Kassia's weyr and it will take more convincing to let strangers to visit for more than a short period of time. Outside of their weyr he is more accepting of strangers, but still wary and on guard as in protecting Kassia. He takes his job very seriously and keeps a close eye on anyone around her. When prevented from joining her and guarding her he can be quite destructive. Kassia's had to replace multiple couches over the turns.

Second Pet Name: Lady Holder of Pern

Pet Type: Runner

Appearance: Lady Holder of Pern is likely of Callamere descent, or at least partially. She was captured in the mountains from one of the bands that formed after so many runners were set free before the volcano erupted.

She is an unusual silvery grey with a darker grey mane, a beautiful sight to behold. She is a deceptively delicate looking, but underneath runs lithe, strong muscles. Some might overlook her, but she's fully capable of taking on the big boys in the biggest races in the south. Indeed, she ran second in her first Arolos Cup and after only a short time of training.

Personality: It is fitting that Lady is Kassia's runner. She is strong-willed and has, as they say, a lot of 'heart'. However she is also finicky and requires a very specific kind of rider or she refuses to perform. She also strongly prefers females. Rarely does a male earn her trust.

Appearance: Hatching Date: 8.07.04.15

The biggest gold in the Weyr, just a hairs breadth larger than Ormanth. She is very tall and lithe without being too skinny. Her hide is a bright yellow gold starting at her belly and gradually reddening the farther up her body you go. The darkest part highlights her spine, the top of her wings, and the top of her head. Her headknobs are actually closer in color to belly making it look like she's wearing a crown. Over all it's almost reminiscent of the noon day sun moving to the setting sun. One more reason the nickname she shares with Kassia is well earned.

Personality: Foreth is the epitome of a Queen that very much knows she's a Queen and she expects everyone else to acknowledge that. To call her haughty is an understatement. She and Kassia are known as the Sun, though whether she specifically started that nickname is actually unknown. Whatever is the case, believes deep down that she rivals the sun and isn't afraid to make that known. She knows she is special, and she makes sure everyone else knows it too.

While her attitude is directed to all people, for dragons it's a bit variable. She holds the highest standards for bronzes and the browns. Greens are sometimes tolerated, though often ignored. A blue that attempts to flirt with her will be driven away quite ruthlessly. As for males, she is a bit picky on who she'll curl up with, at least when she's not proddy. Even then she can sometimes be quite aloof or even grumpy.

For all that she has a slight motherly side on occasion and can have a relatively soft heart for Weyrlings (and *relative* is the key word). Even then most people won't get to see that part of her.

Abilites and weaknesses: Foreth is a big dragon, that makes her strong and powerful, but a bit lacking in the agility area. The Sun has a tendency to tease the bronze and brown dragons which can make her unpopular.
