Name Pronounced: Ish-CAN-ah
Appearance: Ishkana is on the lean side of slim, without much in the way of curves. Her dark brown hair hangs in two stubby plaits to her shoulders, and her complexion reminds you of a cup of mid-strength klah with a dash of milk. Her oval face is pretty ordinary with a slightly snub nose and wide mouth, but her eyes are unusual as the left one is brown and the right is blue. If you approached her from the side you would expect a completely different looking person when viewed from the front. Usually she has her hands in her pockets and slouches, but she’s not quite scruffy enough for anyone to take her to task on it. Around her neck is her one remembrance of her mother, a small inch-long sea shell on a leather thong which was the last thing given to her before she was packed off.
Personality: The look on Ishkana’s face will often give her emotions away and cause ructions. She’s not very good at hiding what she feels and she frequently opens her mouth without considering the consequences. In fact, consequences aren’t hugely important to her – she figures that if her current family get tired of her they’ll just send her away somewhere else like her mother did. She doesn’t feel wanted or like she belongs with her foster-family at all, but she tries to fit in most of the time just to keep the peace. There’s a streak of stubbornness that runs right through the middle of the girl and a pinch of argumentativeness which leads her to sometimes take contrary positions against people just for the sake of it. It sometimes got her a beating too, so she developed a “so what” attitude which often infuriates adults and makes them want to beat her more. She doesn’t push people’s buttons on purpose, it just seems to happen that way.
History: Ishkana claims not to remember much about her early life, and she may well be telling the truth. After all, who wants to remember being packed off by their mother at barely two turns old? The sea shell is the only thing she chooses to recall. She was obviously (to her mind) unwanted or a reminder of something horrible that had happened to her mother, and she was sent away for distant relatives to raise instead.
