Name Pronounced: Ash-ran
Appearance: This young man is tall and broad-shouldered, with a fit, muscular build. He has short, sandy-brown hair that is styled into something of a Pernese long taper cut - enough hair to comb over on the top, though it is often tousled, with side-burns that extend to mid-ear. His eyes are a faded, grayish green that occasionally borders on hazel brown. He's currently clean-shaven and tanned.
Personality: Asheran is the loyal, dependable, family-minded sort - very much in the same vein as his father, though with more of a humorous streak than his old man. Still, he is often serious and practical, and occasionally prone to brooding when confronted with repeated self-failure. He is fiercely protective of his friends, but when relaxed can be quite the prankster. He still sometimes gets defensive if teased about his uneducated upbringing, but has mostly overcome this hurdle as he is now literate and a good deal more educated than he used to be. When he is confronted with something he does not know, he will devote a good deal of energy to understanding it later so he isn't caught flat-footed a second time.
History: Born into a simple farming family on a cothold near Forest Edge Hold, Asheran spent his early childhood helping his father and brothers planting in the fields during the quiet days, and helping clear brush and dig firepits during the chaotic times during thread fall. As it became increasingly obvious that his eldest brother would follow their father as cotmaster of their small domain, positions were figured for the remaining children - the second eldest went to apprentice to the Harpers, the only daughter was married off to the son of a steward, and Asheran, the youngest, was to be apprenticed to follow his second brother and become a Harper. Unfortunately, he had no knack for poetry or song, and is more or less tone deaf. Fortunately, or not, his father was injured by a runner and he had to remain with his eldest brother (Tomlin) to help on the farm - where he may have become a permanent fixture if not for the Searchrider who sniffed him out and sent him to Arolos Weyr.
